/ The first child of David Maygar and Leona Abshire, a pair of high school sweethearts who ended up pregnant at 16 before they gave MTV shows for that sort of thing. Has one sister, Zipporah, who was born in 2000. Neither David nor Leona have much to do with Adira ever since she married a woman, but she's still very close to and protective of Zip.

/ Father's side of the family is Hungarian-Jewish, who escaped Europe in 1940 and eventually moved from New Jersey to Nashville in the early 70s. Mother's side of the family is from Louisiana, who came to Nashville in 1987, two years before Adira was born. Part of the reason Adira's parents ever got together was David was Leona's first friend in the area.

/ Lived briefly in Cairo, Sydney, and London for study abroad programs, but has otherwise never lived anywhere besides Nashville. As much as she'd like to, she's more apprehensive than she'd care to admit about starting over entirely new.

/ Always wanted to work with animals, but didn't have the emotional wherewithal to go into vetinary medicine. When she realized that her degree was semi-useless if she had no intention of teaching (and she didn't) she decided to go into dog grooming. Got licensed as a dog trainer in the fall of 2014. Has been pet-sitting since high school and still does for some extra cash, which she appreciates because as much as she loves her job, it's nice to get to interact with cats or the occasional ferret.

/ Deeply stubborn and often too proud to ask for help. Adira realizes that she often makes her own life harder by being that way but she has no intention of changing.

/ Never gets the same result any time she's taken the Myers-Briggs test, has either broken every test on the internet or is more than likely ambiverted.

/ Also works as a ghostwriter, mostly on romance or YA novels she knows are garbage. To anyone asking, she is 'working on her own book', but what she doesn't tell them is that she's stalled out and hit a huge writers block and hasn't managed to update it in over six months.
